Belarusian border guards found a migrant sitting next to the body of a murdered comrade in the Verkhnedvinsky district, the Investigative Committee of Belarus reports. According to the agency, the men are citizens of Somalia.
The night before, they were walking through Latvia to a European country, but were detained by Latvian soldiers. The latter took their documents, money and mobile phones, and then brutally beat them and pushed them into Belarus , the report says .
The Investigative Committee of Belarus informs that an investigative task force has arrived at the scene. The Verkhnedvinsky District Department of the Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation.
It was previously reported that data on Russians, foreigners and stateless persons will be transmitted on a daily basis with secure access to this information. Previously, such information was received from territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on paper once a month. Improvement of the collection of statistical data on migration has been underway since August 2024.
Before this, Moscow Regional Duma deputy Anatoly Nikitin stated that about 740 thousand migrants live in Russia illegally. According to him, about 8.5 million people are registered as migrants in the Russian Federation, which is about 10% of the country’s working population.
