Israel responds to rumors about dismissal of Chief of General Staff

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had no intention of dismissing Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces Herzi Halevy and head of the General Security Service Ronen Bar after dismissing Yoav Galant as defense minister, the Prime Minister’s Office reported. The press service stressed that the reports that appeared on this issue are aimed at sowing discord and division in the country.

Also false are reports that the ministers from the ultra-Orthodox parties were aware of the resignation of the defense minister. They learned about it from the media , the prime minister’s office clarified .

Earlier, Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Foreign Minister Israel Katz will be appointed to this position. The Israeli prime minister said that serious differences had emerged between him and the defense minister that could not be overcome. He also said that he had offered Minister without Portfolio Gideon Saar the post of Foreign Minister.

It was also reported that Israeli intelligence services arrested several people who may be involved in the leak of classified documents from Netanyahu’s office. It is noted that what happened could hinder the military operation in the Gaza Strip and, in particular, the achievement of some goals in the region.
